OUR APPROACH. In this outdoor environment, our "approach" is to look at fitness not just from the angle of lifting weights or running in the park (although there might be some of this!), but from a wider perspective - how lack of sleep, poor nutrition and dehydration equal a very stressed body that cannot deal with the high physiological load that many gym users inflict on themselves.
FUNCTIONAL TRAINING. At Northside Fitness, your training will be structured around everyday movements - called 'functional training' - designed to help your body be stronger in things you 'just do'. Climbing in and out of the car, putting out the washing, picking up your children/ grandchildren, climbing the stairs. These movements are sometimes referred to as 'Primal Patterns' and comprise the following 7 movements: Squat, Bend, Lunge, Push, Pull, Twist, Gait. Overall, in comparison to a gym based programme which concentrates on fixed machines (normally) in a single range of motion, functional training is 'multi-planar', meaning you will better be able to tackle all that life throws at you head on, and if need be sideways/with a twist.
